Today is Sammy’s birthday, he is the big two! He is getting to be such a big boy. We love having him in our family.
Sammy loves Elmo. When we went to ToysRUs he saw the section of Sesame Street toys and became very excited. He jumped up from his position in the back of the cart and shouted Melmo while bouncing up and down.
He is learning all sorts of new things. He likes to put on chap stick and is currently learning that a glue stick is not chap stick. He is also learning that when mommy sees him slathering his lips with his glue stick that she will shout and has to clean it all off.
Sammy is also a big help. He is mommy’s trash man. Sammy takes all the diapers and whatever else mommy needs to the trash. He is also learning what is not trash. A few months ago, he must have thrown away the TV remote and unfortunately mommy and daddy cannot find a universal remote that will work.
Sammy is very polite. He will say, “yes, mam” and “thank you-uh”. Recently Pa and Nana took us to lunch at Sizzlers and Sammy made sure to say “thank you-uh” every time the waitress brought anything to our table. One time he did not think the waitress heard him and shouted across the restaurant “thank you-uh”. Yes, he is a very polite boy.
He is not a baby any longer. Now, he follows his siblings around and tries to play whatever they are playing. He loves to play outside and ride his little bike around the house while trying to run over his daddy.
Sammy has had more than his share of health problems this year but he is such a trooper. He does not complain or whine about all the doctor visits and surgeries. He has taken it all in stride and is cheerful nonetheless.
Sammy is our first VR baby. When we think of how close we came to not having this bundle of joy and energy in our lives we become very emotional. God has blessed immensely by allowing us to be his parents.
Sammy, mommy and daddy and your brothers and sisters love you very much! We have truly received a gift from God by Him placing you in our family. You are a wonderful son and we look forward to seeing how God will work in your life. Happy Birthday, Sammy Pooh!

Mother Hen over at the Ship Full O’ Pirates has asked me to write a post that will help advise growing families. I am humbled and honored that this wise mama of many children has asked me to share. I still feel like a young mom that is learning as I go.
However, if I were to talk with a younger mom who only has one or two small children I would tell her to be diligent. When my first child was a toddler she was truly my princess. I believed that she could do no wrong and would instantly rise to her defense. Whenever she was in need of correction (read - spanking) I simply would not allow her daddy to harm my baby. Nearly three years after our princess was born we were blessed with a son. Dealing with a baby and a somewhat spoiled child was challenging. The stone that broke the camel’s back was when she picked up a chair in the nursery at church and hurled it at the childcare worker. At that point, I realized that my protectiveness was causing her more harm than good.
My daughter is now a well behaved eleven year old. There are times when I can still see the seeds of rebellion that I allowed to grow in her heart at that young age. She, especially, has a difficult time respecting her daddy. I know that this is because I undermined him during his disciplining times.
This is my advice: be diligent and consistent! It is more cruel to allow your child to become a self serving person and become frustrated and angry at the behavior that you have allowed than to apply the rod of knowledge to his/her behind!
My children call all rulers paddles. Which is funny when you are in wal-mart buying back to school supplies and they holler that we are buying more paddles when I grab a handful of rulers. We keep them in various rooms throughout the house and in the car. When the needs arise they are told why they are receiving their correction and it is applied and we go on with our day. There is no need to draw out the process into a complicated affair.
I do believe that we need to make sure that we are spending a lot of time cuddling our children. If they are really acting up then I think we need to double up the time we spend snuggling them. They need to know that we are just in our punishments but that we also love them more than anything. In fact, many times at night when we’ve had a trying day I will spend extra time and reaffirm that I love them whether they are behaving properly or not.
Our relationships with our children are to mirror our relationship to God. Our kids need to learn to instantly obey and to treat us and others with respect. We need to learn to obey God instantly and to respect Him. He disciplines us and we are to do the same with the children He has placed in our care.
*Allie has given her blessing for this post*

Occasionally the children come to me with a question that builds my confidence as a homeschool mom. Last night, Timmy got out of bed with a perplexing question that he simply had to know the answer. He needed to know if worms were baby snakes. Aye, frijoles! Oh well, at least he is thinking, right?

My sweet cousin, Kris, is right we are moving to Utah. Although I have been to your lovely home many times, Kris, I do not have your address. Please email it to me and I’ll send your gift card!
We are moving to the Salt Lake City area! This is a good move for Rod! The store he will manage is number four in the company, out of more than 300! He is amazing and they know it!
Rod will find out more details when he goes to Las Vegas for his meeting. One thing is certain, we will no longer be considered odd for having five children! Everyone will probably just assume that we are LDS. Rod has always said that when he retires and the children are grown that we will go into the mission field. However, it appears that God is sending us there now! We are praying for protection on our children’s hearts and feel the need to be even more diligent with teaching them the Lord’s word!
I’ll update more once we know when the move should occur. Rod thinks that it will be a month or two, but knowing HFT it will probably be within a couple of weeks. As always, never a boring minute in the Bohannon house!
*Edited to add: This is my 100th post! Do I talk a lot or what?

I have a $5.00 gift card to Sears for the first person to correctly guess where we are moving. You can’t guess if we already told you.
Also, check out this homeschool video.

I thought it would be fun to have you guess where. So here are some hints:
What’s your guess?

Sorry about the lack of posting lately, I’ve been preoccupied with something that I’ll share with you tomorrow.
Rod has the next three days off, whooo hooo! We were going to take the kids to a church carnival but it is supposed to rain for several days. So, I think we will take them to Chuck E Cheese tomorrow and then head over to Toys R Us to buy Sammy’s birthday present. He turns two on Tuesday! Oh, and I did have to reschedule his IVP to the 12th, because Rod is going to Las Vegas on Tuesday-Thursday for his manager’s meeting.
Check in tomorrow to see what is going on with us now!
